World exhibitions are regularly held since 1851. This year the EXPO 2010 held in Shanghai and the Czech Republic will not miss. To the exhibition signed up total 189 countries, which represents their art and industrial products. The main topic will be „Better city, better life“. This exhibition runs from 1th May to 31th October.
Czech expozition attracted to the project „Fruits of civilization.“ Accompanying program will be project „Pearls Czech republic“. Exhibition „Pearls Czech republic“ will be divided into five categories – cities and places; discoveries and inventions; art and culture; leadership and records and Czech wonders.
The first category included Český Krumlov as one of the best preserved historical cities in Europe. It´s a great way to show off their beuty and uniqueness. In this category you will find the Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Spa Triangle (Karlovy Vary, Mariánské a Františkovy lázně) and Lednice-Valtice.
Throughout its 150 years of its existence, the World EXPO has always brought in new knowledge coming from a given era and reflected development trends in human civilization. The main attraction of the first World EXPO in London in 1851 was the Crystal Palace: an almost five hundred meter-long palace built of cast iron and glass. Subsequently, the exhibiting countries would offer presentations of similar advantages at irregular intervals once every several years.
The last EXPO we participated in as Czechoslovakia was in 1992 in Seville and its successor, the Czech Republic was present at the latest expositions in Hannover (2000) and Aichi (2005). In Japan, the Czechs introduced the interactive Garden of Fantasy and Music, which was a relaxation area with optical as well as audio objects that visitors could try out. The Czech presentation was visited by almost 1.7 million visitors.
Today EXPO is the economic and cultural Olympiad of the world, a competition among nations, as well as among exhibitors from the private sector on a given subject. At the same time, it is about marketing countries internationally. Expositions of the first category last a maximum of 6 months and may be held on an enormous area. But at a time when information as well as goods can be had through the internet and other technologies, they remain a place of rendezvous and of authentic experiences.

Main Theme of EXPO 2010 in Shanghai by the organizers is:
"Better City - Better Life"
Theme of the Czech Republic’s participation at EXPO 2010:
"Fruits of Civilization"
The concept of the "Ideal City" was always a part of political, philosophical, ethical and religious debate. At the beginning of the 21st century, when urban areas are home to 70 percent of the world's population, a similar discourse is unavoidable. The goal of the EXPO 2010 organizers is therefore to concentrate the attention of the international community on the actual problems of urban growth and development, which should emphasize most of all the harmony between the individual, technologies and the natural environment. Main Theme "Better City - Better Life" reflects the common interest to manage a wild growth of urban areas and the quality of life of its inhabitants. Today’s cities and municipal agglomerations face multiple problems - smog, criminality, social and cultural conflicts, lack of resources, and damage to the environment among others. EXPO 2010 in Shanghai has set a goal to specify these problems on a global level and construct a base for solutions by future generations.
The goal of the Czech Republic's participation is to present our country as a prosperous and attractive country in the heart of Europe, which with its unique way contributes to the creation and maintaining of civilization values. In contrast with many other countries, we have managed to keep the fruits of diverse cultures, sharing in cultural development in our cities. Whether it is in the form of historic cities' core, which to this day live their own lives, they are naturally incorporated into the surrounding modern development and became an integral part of today's cities. Similarly, our cities also reflect the past coexistence with various cultures and communities, which enrich the city’s life. The strong suit of the Czech Republic remains its high urbanistic level, accented over the past 20 years by the Czech Republic’s growth.
The positive presentation of the cultural and economic aspects of life in the Czech Republic represents a significant opportunity to express the ability of our nation to exist in harmony not only with each other, but with those in neighbouring countries.
EXPO Shanghai is an exceptional opportunity to intensify business contacts between China and the Czech Republic. The international significance of the Chinese People’s Republic is on the rise worldwide, not only because of its tremendous GDP growth but also as the result of the introduction of modern technologies in industrial plants and the efforts of genuine improvements to urban agglomerations.
The theme of the Czech Republic's exposition "FRUITS OF CIVILIZATION" will offer a great space for its creative format and offers an opportunity to present the country as a tourist destination and an interesting place for investment.
