Rožmberk Castle was founded in the first half of 13th century by a member of the powerful Witigonen family, Vok from Prčice who later called himself after this castle Wok from Rosenberg. Very soon in the settlement round the castle a serfdom townlet arose. The castle became the administrative and economic centre of the manor.
The castle was named after the five petal rose that its founder had in his coat-of-arms. The German name Rosenberg (Rose castle) was Czechicized on the name Rožmberk. The Rožmberk family changed the castle into a beautiful Renaissance residence. The castle was interesting even later thanks to the Buquoy family who was holding the castle from the first half of 17th century till the year 1945.
Accessibility by road:
Rožmberk castle is located about 20 km to the south of Český Krumlov on a long spit above the Vltava river.

Romantic and Renaissance interiors.The tour starts with the climb up the richly carved staircase from 19th century, continues with the pseudogothic Crusade Gallery decorated with the portrayals of the crusaders. Then there is the Rosenberg Hall which is dedicated to the history of the Rosenberg Family.
