The Evening of Serenades

Serenades of important composers will be held at the Masquerade Hall

Light compositions originally intended for interpretation in the open air will be performed by the Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic under the direction of chief conductor Stanislav Vavřínek. Visitors will listen not only to the serenades composed by great Czech composers Bohuslav Martinů and Josef Suk, but also to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48. According to music critics, Tchaikovsky was inspired by folk melodies, so the listeners will be transferred to a flowering orchard by means of his music. Thanks to Suk’s Serenade for String Orchestra in E-flat major, Op. 6, visitors will experience a Christmas atmosphere. The serenade is often broadcast on Christmas Day and is therefore by now considered to be a Christmas song. However, the work has nothing to do with Christmas, as Suk composed it during the summer months at the early age of 18.
