About the Schwarzenberg Grenadier Guard

From 1742 until the dramatic events of 1948, the Schwarzenberg Grenadier Guard continuously protected the castle in Český Krumlov and its lords as the ducal bodyguard.

Revived in 2015 as an association of citizens dedicated to preserving the tradition of the Český Krumlov castle guard, this unique heritage of the past has, after nearly 70 years in archives and museums, returned to the life of our town and South Bohemia.

The aim is the full restoration of the activities of the historic Schwarzenberg Grenadier Guard at the Český Krumlov Castle, in the form of a ceremonial castle guard, live performances, parades, honour salutes, and traditional concerts by the revived grenadier band — in a way that respectfully continues the legacy of the castle guard, cares for it, and develops it further, ensuring the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Český Krumlov, the Bohemian Forest and South Bohemia.
