The exhibition connects the history of the Jewish community in the Český Krumlov region with the life story of Ruth Hálová, a native of Český Krumlov and one of the Czechoslovak children rescued by Sir Nicholas Winton.
The exhibitions The World of Český Krumlov’s Jewish Community and The Story of Ruth Hálová are part of the cultural and educational project The Power of Courage and Kindness: The Story of Ruth Hálová, created to mark the 100th anniversary of Ruth Hálová’s birth.
Through period photographs, archival documents, personal memories and historical context, the exhibition presents the world of Český Krumlov’s Jewish community and the life story of Ruth Hálová. It introduces the everyday lives, notable figures and families that helped shape the Český Krumlov region, while recalling how their lives were affected by Nazi persecution and the Second World War.
Ruth Hálová’s personal story opens up the wider context of the Jewish community in Český Krumlov. The two thematic strands come together to form a single narrative – a story that connects the history of a place with the lives of the people who lived there.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover a world whose traces can still be found in Český Krumlov today. It also reminds us that real human stories are not simply part of the past, but can continue to speak to and inspire society today.
The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 16:00.
Admission: CZK 50 adults, CZK 25 children and seniors
Admission to the exhibition is included in the admission fee to the Český Krumlov Synagogue. Tickets can only be purchased in person at the synagogue ticket office.
