Through music, singing, and dancing, Ondráš presents artistically stylized folklore not only from the domestic regions of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, but also from related Central European regions. The ensemble's dramaturgy draws upon folk traditions, as evidenced by its name honoring the famous Silesian outlaw Ondráš.
The Ondráš Military Art Ensemble is a professional performing arts body based in Brno, established by the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. It comprises a Folk Instrument Orchestra, a dance troupe, and a female vocal ensemble.
Through music, singing, and dancing, it presents audiences with artistically stylized folklore from the domestic regions of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. It occasionally features related Central and Eastern European regions as well (e.g., Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, or Romania). In addition to working with traditional folklore material, Ondráš explores crossovers into other musical and dance genres and creates original staged productions.
Founded in 1954, the ensemble has grown into its current form of a nearly hundred-member collective, consisting of a professional core supplemented by numerous external performers. Its repertoire offers a wide range of programmes, from smaller, representative accompaniment events and educational dance performances for schools to extensive dance-theatre productions.
