Between the Sky and the River is a site-specific open-air performance that combines contemporary circus, acrobatics, live music, and storytelling in the unique setting of the river beneath the church in Český Krumlov.
The natural scenery of the river, dam, bridge, and historic architecture becomes a living part of the narrative. Water is not just a backdrop, but the main character of the evening — a symbol of life, strength, transformation, and the boundary between calm and danger.
Individual scenes unfold simultaneously on the water’s surface, in the air, and above the audience’s heads. Highline, aerial hoop, aerial silk, flyboarding, dance ribbons, and moving rafts create a large-scale visual composition that connects the worlds of people, water, and imagination.
An important part of the project is live music and the involvement of the local community. The main vocals by Josefina are accompanied by a big band from Český Krumlov, brass instruments played from the windows of the local art school, as well as intimate moments of children’s singing and piano.
The evening is guided by storyteller Justin Svoboda, who connects the individual scenes through poetic narration inspired by the Vltava River — its power, mystery, and legends.
