Flames in Monasteries, the international lampwork bead symposium, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. From August 14 to 16, Czech and international glass artists will gather at Český Krumlov Monasteries to introduce visitors to the traditional technique of making glass beads and other glassmaking crafts.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will have the chance to watch the participating artists at work at their torches and the glass furnace, join creative workshops held outdoors, attend talks and other events, or even try their hand at making glass themselves. Original glass jewelry created directly during the symposium will also be available for purchase.
The anniversary edition will welcome world-renowned glass artist and master Allex Chang, while glassmakers from the Kunzglass glassworks, led by Zdeněk Kunz, will also demonstrate their craft at the glass furnace. In addition, the organizers have prepared several surprises to commemorate the ten-year history of this exceptional event.
The program will also feature evening concerts – on Friday at 20:00, the local band Dva Havrani will perform, and on Saturday at 19:00, the band SPOLEKTIV. The grand opening of the symposium will take place on Friday at 14:00, with the program continuing all weekend until Sunday's farewell.
