From mountaintop to chateau park

This trip is intended for more experienced cyclists, especially because of the first approx. 12-kilometer ride up Kleť Mountain. The elevation from the start to the peak is 617 m; the first kilometers are slightly uphill with sections of greater gradient, the last 3 km are very challenging. Once on the top, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of the wide surroundings and refreshments in the mountain hut. The relaxing return trip takes you to the chateau park in Červený Dvůr, where you can walk the local nature trail or just relax amidst the greenery.

1.

Český Krumlov

From Krumlov you can take the cycle path No. 1166. The path runs on asphalt, with minimal traffic, and the first few kilometres are slightly uphill, with sections with more incline.

2.

Granátník lookout point

On the way you can stop at the Granátník lookout tower. The wooden lookout tower is 5 metres high and from it you can see Hluboká nad Vltavou, České Budějovice, the Golden Crown Monastery or the Novohradské hory.

Kleť Mountain

After a hike you will be rewarded with a beautiful view from a lookout tower – in good weather you can see all the way to the peaks of the Alps. Replenish your strength at the Horské chaty Kleť Restaurant with its famous garlic soup or another of the local specialities, in winter it is only open on weekends. The return journey will be effortless.

4.

Memorial stone near Plánský

On the way down from Klet you can come across a memorial stone at Plánský, which was placed here in 1914 on the anniversary of the silver wedding of Prince Jan and Princess Therese of Schwarzenberg.

5.

Pension Hubert

The route will take you from Plánský to the Hubert guesthouse, where you can refresh yourself. Shortly below the hájenka, turn left onto cycle route 1168 and follow it down to Červený Dvůr.

6.

Červený Dvůr Park

Thanks to its landscape and architectural values, the 105-hectare park is one of the most important cultural monuments beyond the borders of South Bohemia. It is accessible all year round and a natural-historical nature trail passes through it. You can refresh yourself in the garden café Bažantnice. The chateau itself is not open to the public, it is a psychiatric hospital.

Take the cycle route No. 1139 to Český Krumlov. This leads along a slightly busy road, but after about 5 km you will turn onto the quiet cycle route No. 1047, which will take you all the way to Krumlov.

If you don't like cycling

Kleť Mountain is accessible at any time of the year and, of course, in other ways than cycling. You can combine car or train with a hiking tour, or you can take the chair lift to the top from the car park in Krasetín.
