Granatník Nature Trail

The 8.5 km-long nature trail introduces visitors to the nature and landscape around the village of Srnín and Granátník vrch Hill in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area.

The trail is circular and starts and ends in the village of Srnín, 5 km from Český Krumlov. However, you can also start from Český Krumlov, specifically its Vyšný district – you can walk here or drive and park at the Nový Dvůr car park. Your route will then start by stopping at trail No. 6 (see map below).

From the Nový Dvůr car park, you will first go to the place U modrého obrázku (At the Blue Picture), from where you will climb to the top of Granátník vrch Hill (810 m above sea level). On the eastern slope of Granátník vrch Hill, there is a wooden 5-metre high lookout tower, which offers a view of the picturesque Vltava valley. The viewing platform is freely accessible all year round. In good weather, you can see Hluboká nad Vltavou, České Budějovice, the Golden Crown Monastery and the Novohradské hory Mountains. From the lookout tower you continue along other points of the nature trail to the village of Srnín and back to Český Krumlov.

Along the nature trail you will meet nine infoboards (in Czech) that will introduce you to the local fauna and flora, but also to the history of the local military fortifications built before the Second World War. There are also educational interactive features where you can try out the dendrophone and learn about animal tracks, and the tower of knowledge will introduce you to the economic tree species of the forests in Kleť.
