Baroque Opera: Händel – Alessandro Severo | Festival Krumlov

Handel's opera in a historically informed interpretation by the Collegium Marianum under the direction of Jana Semerádová

Alessandro Severo's baroque opera-pasticcio tells of the great jealousy of a scheming mother and the great love and forgiveness of a loving wife. In honour of George Frideric Handel, whose birth will be 350 years ago this year, it will be performed in one of the best preserved Baroque theatres in the world. Audiences will be able to choose whether to see the work on Thursday or Friday, with the festival offering two performances. The story based on the real life of the last Severan on the Roman throne will be performed by Collegium Marianum under the direction of Jana Semerádová. Visitors can expect an enlightened interpretation of solo parts and orchestral accompaniments, unique choreography, period costumes and make-up. All this in a unique monument in Český Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
