The Krumlov Grenadiers were a favourite subject in Josef Seidel's photographs. The concert of the modern-day Jazz Band of the Schwarzenberg Guard will be an encounter with a musical ensemble that was active in the Český Krumlov region from the 1870s until the Second World War. The current jazz band comprises musicians who have long dedicated themselves to interpreting jazz music from the 1920s to the 1940s, gaining their experience in renowned traditionalist ensembles such as the Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra, Ondřej Havelka's Melody Makers, Jan Matoušek's Prague Swing Orchestra, the Harlemania Swing Orchestra, the Avalon Swing Trio, and others.
The Guard band's repertoire draws from its musical archive, preserved in the library of Český Krumlov Castle. The musical experience will be brought to life by period photographs, letting the melodies of Seidel's era ring out once more – tunes that remain close to today's audiences as well.
The concert is held as part of the accompanying programme for the exhibition "Seidel. Photographic Work – Past and Present", which can be viewed at the Regional Museum until 30 August.
