Winter Olšina pond and ice-skating in Horní Planá

From Český Krumlov – take the I/39 toward Lipno, after about 18 km turn right before the village Mokrá in the direction of Květušín and continue another 5.5 km to the Olšina pond.

The Olšina pond on the outskirts of the Boletice military training grounds is one of the highest located fish breeding ponds in Bohemia (730 m above sea level). The nature trail loop, 7,322 metres long and accessible all year round is  especially popular. It starts on the western side of the pond at the information centre near the Olšina Resort - a recreation centre of the Military Forests and Estates (where there is also a restaurant and accommodation).

To get to Horní Planá from Olšina - go in the direction of Hodňov on the III/1637 (7 km). You can park in the large car park by the beach, only a few steps to the skating track. In addition to several serviced areas and ice-hockey rings, there is also a skating circuit between Planá and Pihlov – weather provided. If the temperatures down fall too low, don't despair and visit the new 36-metre high lookout tower on Dobrá Voda in Horní Planá. It is situated less than a kilometre walk from the square at an altitude of 862 metres. The views from here are truly amazing - you can see Lipno, the peaks of Šumava, to the other side (in the direction of the military area) you will be rewarded with the views of Špičák and Houbový vrch. You can also see the Alps very well, in the south-east direction. Entrance to the lookout tower is free, it is open all year round.
